Dharmika is a modern day troubadour, illuminating the extraordinary moments we experience in our ordinary lives.
“Her songs are like Polaroid photographs of the lives we lead: clear enough to hold onto, with soft enough edges to frame our own way.” - James Tristan Redding
Dharmika loves nature and thought she ought to pursue a somewhat practical career, so she became an environmental scientist. But music was her passion, so she produced an award-winning children's album about rainforest ecology to ignite childrens’ curiosity about the magical wonders of our beautiful planet. She has been performing catchy, insightful music for children and adults alike for over twenty-five years, inspiring audiences on west coast folk festival and venue stages from Kulak’s Woodshed in Los Angeles, to the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle.
Karen Broder puts it this way, “Her captivating presence and joy in sharing her music is extraordinary.” -
Her years in nature continue to shape her lyrical imagery, and she also integrates her life experiences into her songwriting. After two challenging marriages, the sudden loss of her second husband, and raising two children alone, songwriting and singing became part of Dharmika’s healing process. She spins her experiences and unique yet universal worldviews into lyrics that articulate the dilemmas of our human experience, while reminding us of how precious our life is.
Now she shares empowering contemporary folk music, creating a delightful safe space for her audiences to sing together. Her irresistibly optimistic choruses lead us to collectively and melodically stand in our higher visions of human kindness and activate our work towards a brighter future for the generations to come.
As Bruce Vine said, "Dharmika uniquely paints current social issues in the verbal imagery and raw honesty of the folk song tradition."
Dharmika has completed her first long-awaited album, “Linger by the Water”, a collection of stories about human resilience, optimism, and beauty found through facing loss. By listening, you will be transported to the forests, rivers, and mountains of Oregon, a glacier in Iceland, and a coral reef. The first released singles from the album, including the title song, can be heard on all major platforms. In Spring of 2024, Dharmika will support the release of her album with a tour of the Pacific Northwest.
